Well, I’m officially thirty! And in the words of Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on Thirty… I’m thirty, flirty and thriving! While I am not too sure if I would use those exact words to describe how I feel about turning thirty, entering into a new decade sure has made me feel a mix of emotions. I am a bit teary eyed that I can no longer describe myself as a “20-something”, but at the same time, I am looking forward to experiencing a new chapter in my life. 30 is the new 20 anyways, right?

Some of my favourite blog posts to read are monthly favourites. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a curious and nosy person, but I love knowing what everyone is enjoying. Whether it’s a specific skincare product or makeup item, or favourite book/tv show, I’m always looking to try new things that I can incorporate into my daily life. When I come across something I really love, I just feel the need to share! So here are some of my favourite things from this month!

Wow – what a whirlwind the past year has been. Who would have thought that shortly into the year 2020 that our entire world would suddenly come to a halt and change our everyday way of life? And how did this year already go by so fast? I swear this year zoomed by and I have no idea how because every day for the last 10 months since the world shutdown has felt like Groundhog Day. Living in lockdown and in isolation is definitely not how I expected my life to look for the majority of the year. However, despite the uncontrollable circumstances of the past year, looking back I was still able to experience some highlights as well.

I feel like I’ve been a busy little elf in my workshop (aka my garage) making various diy signs to give as Christmas gifts to my friends and family. Now that I have made a couple, I thought I would share with you how I make them! These are quite simple to make and are a great project for anyone wanting to add a custom piece to their home or to give as a gift. There is no need to buy overpriced signs any longer when you can make your own!

One of my favourite places to visit and explore is the East Coast of Canada. A few years ago, I got to experience it for the first time when I planned a trip to Nova Scotia (which you can read about here and here). It was the trip of a lifetime and I couldn’t wait to go back. Well, I finally did, but this time I decided to explore New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island over ten days which was an equally amazing trip.
Joel and I went at the start of September 2019 and spent a total of 10 days (yes I know this blog post is way overdue…#bloggerfail). We saw some amazing sights, including the Hopewell Rocks and the Fundy Trail Parkway. There was so much to see and do!
I hope to share with you some helpful tips and must-see places to visit if you are also planning a trip to NB or PEI, and if you’re not planning a trip anytime soon, I hope you enjoy following along our adventures!
Read MoreEnsuite Bathroom Makeover
If you’ve been following me for a while then you know that I’ve already attempted to update our ensuite bathroom last year with some of my DIY skills… I painted the vanity, the walls, and the floor (yes… I even painted my bathroom floor!). Well, surprisingly things held up for the most part over the past year… but I just wasn’t in love with it. I always knew that my DIY fixes were only for the short-term until we would decide to invest in some further upgrades. Well, this past month it was our main project to update (for a second time!) our ensuite bathroom… and I promise you this time it’s staying like this!

The fall season is nearly here and I couldn’t be happier… seriously… as soon as the end of August hits, I’m already planning how I’m going to decorate. I know it’s a tad early to start decorating, but I recently discovered the concrete pumpkin trend and I knew I had to give it a shot. I absolutely loved how these turned out and I wanted to share with you all how I made these adorable pumpkins! These would look so cute on a front porch or even styled on a dining room table – they are very versatile! So keep reading to see how I made these!

The fall season is one of my favourite seasons to decorate for, especially for Halloween. I love the colours, the smells, the pumpkins… I even love the tacky halloween decorations! Seriously, they made my childhood! With that said, I have already started decorating for the change in season – I know it’s early, but I just can’t help it!
One of my favourite ways to decorate is by making seasonal signs to display throughout my home. I recently shared on my instagram (@always_amy_) how I took a slightly tacky sign from the dollar store and gave it a new look with some spooky fonts and my Cricut machine. While I was searching for different fonts, I came across so many free options that you can use all throughout the season – and did I mention they are FREE? So I decided to round up some of my favourites and put them all together in one place for you to use. These would be perfect to use with a vinyl machine, like a Circuit or Silhouette Cameo (if you have one), or even to make spooky prints, invitations, signs… the list goes on!

It’s that time of year again – Ikea has announced their 2021 catalogue! This year actually marks its 70th birthday (Happy Birthday!). As an avid Ikea shopper myself, I always take it upon myself to flip through the new selection to see what new items are available. So here are my top 15!
Read MoreDIY Framed Canvas
I recently created my own textured diy canvas art and wanted to make it look more finished by creating a floating frame. Whether you’ve diy-ed your own canvas or bought one without a frame, adding a floating frame to your canvas adds such a nice sleek touch that really makes the artwork all come together. Plus it’s so affordable!

One of my favourite ways to personalize and decorate a room is with art. It can really help tie a space together bringing in colours, textures, and patterns. However, some artwork comes with such a hefty price tag that can make it challenging to find something that you love within your price range. So many times I have walked into home decor stores and seen large canvas artwork with abstract patterns and designs… and I always think to myself… I could do that! Well, today is that day!
I’ve been seeing this trend of textured canvas art (or otherwise known as joint compound art) floating around Instragram and Pinterest. I’ve been in awe at how simple it seems to be to create and how amazing it looks. I do consider myself to be creative, but not necessarily artistic so I was worried that it would not turn out. Since this is abstract art, there really isn’t any way you can mess this up, and I am happy to report that this is so easy to do.

With my birthday coming up, I wanted to spend the day doing what I love – wine tasting! Typically, I always venture to Niagara-on-the-Lake to visit the vineyards and sample some wine, which you can read about here and here. However, this time I decided to stick closer to home and explore what’s in my own backyard of Huron County.

Read MoreTrash to Treasure – Table Lamp Makeover
One of my favourite things to do is take something old and unwanted and turn it into something new. This weekend I updated two sets of lamps I had in my home and gave them a new look! I’m always amazed at how much some paint and time can transform something that was ready for the trash or donation into something brand new. So continue reading if you’d like to see how I made over two different sets of lamps (and now struggling to determine which ones I like best in my living room!).

Who else is ready for spring? I’m so ready! I’m so over the cold and icy weather and not to mention the dry skin that comes with it. I love a good body scrub to use in the shower or bath, but they can be pricey and you don’t always know what ingredients are in it. So this weekend I whipped up a batch of some homemade lavender peppermint sugar scrub. It’s so incredibly easy to make that I can barely call this a DIY. It consists of two ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry, plus two essential oils – that’s it! No weird ingredients and no preservatives. I’ve been trying to use more natural products with my skincare so this is a perfect solution. Plus it’s totally customizable! Don’t like the oils I’ve used? Then use whatever scents are your favourite!
Read MoreKitchen Cupboard Organization
Let’s talk organization. This is something that I actually love. Give me a label maker and I will go to town labeling everything in my sight. But for real, the best gift I’ve ever received is my label maker (thanks Joel!). Organization comes quite naturally to me. I’m not sure why, but I’ve always been a very organized person. Maybe it’s because I get this weird satisfaction whenever things are perfectly in order and in their own little space. Anyone else just love to drool over Pinterest-worthy, perfectly organized spaces?
Maybe you’re not as obsessed with organizing as I am and maybe it’s something that you are trying to work towards this year. If that is a goal for you this year, now is the perfect time to start! I always feel like the start to a new year is the perfect opportunity to work towards organizing areas of your home. For me, my kitchen is the one area that I’m always trying to keep organized and tidy. It’s the room in our home that gets used the most and having an organizational system helps to keep everything in its place and frees up space. So this weekend I decided to finish tackling this project and the best part is that I did so with mostly dollar-store products!

So we finally purchased a new coffee table to replace the wobbly old one we got for free when we moved in. It served its purpose, but it was time for an upgrade. Now that we have a new coffee table that is totally more my style, I wanted to share how I typically decorate it!
Read MoreMy Word of the Year
We are well into the year 2020 friends! Just in case you didn’t realize… like me. How has 2019 already come and gone? It just feels like yesterday when Joel and I bought our first home and moved in but in reality, it’s been a year and a half. A year and a half and we finally just purchased some new furniture to replace the old, mismatched, hand-me-down pieces that were given to us when we first moved in. Hey, when it’s free, the price is right!
Now that Christmas and holidays have come and gone and we are all welcoming a new year into our lives (and some of us, like me, are just trying to remember to write 2020 instead of 2019 on documents), it can be a good time for both reflection and planning of the change in year.
Read MoreA Winter Getaway to Niagara-on-the-Lake
This year for Christmas, instead of exchanging gifts, Joel and I decided to go on a little two-day winter getaway to our favourite place – Niagara-on-the-Lake. Anyone who knows me knows that this is my favourite place to visit (I’ve written a previous blog post about NOTL which you can read here)! We usually go once or twice a year, but we’ve never been in the winter so I thought it would be the perfect place to visit over the holidays.
