Who else is ready for spring? I’m so ready! I’m so over the cold and icy weather and not to mention the dry skin that comes with it. I love a good body scrub to use in the shower or bath, but they can be pricey and you don’t always know what ingredients are in it. So this weekend I whipped up a batch of some homemade lavender peppermint sugar scrub. It’s so incredibly easy to make that I can barely call this a DIY. It consists of two ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry, plus two essential oils – that’s it! No weird ingredients and no preservatives. I’ve been trying to use more natural products with my skincare so this is a perfect solution. Plus it’s totally customizable! Don’t like the oils I’ve used? Then use whatever scents are your favourite!
What you will need:
- 1 cup of white sugar
- 1/2 cup of organic coconut oil
- 4 drops of lavender oil
- 2 drops of peppermint oil
This scrub so too easy. Just pour the sugar and oil into a bowl and mix!
Make sure the oil is soft at room temperature. If it’s hard, then nuke it in the microwave for a few seconds to soften it, but don’t melt it completely. You’ll know it’s done when the sugar and oil is incorporated together in soft clumps.
Once it’s mixed together, scoop it into a jar/container. This recipe fits nicely into a regular-sized mason jar, which is what I used (see Joel, I do have a purpose for hoarding mason jars). Then add a bit of ribbon or twine and a little tag and you’re good to go!
I absolutely love this body scrub. It works so well to soften your skin without being too harsh and it also leaves you smelling so fresh and clean. I personally love the smell of lavender, and mixed with the hint of peppermint makes for such a refreshing scent. If you aren’t a fan of these scents like I am, or if you feel like it smells too strong, then just alter the number of drops and/or the scent of oil you use. It’s totally up to you. This would also make such a nice gift to give as well as enjoying it yourself.
I hope you enjoyed this quick little DIY body scrub! Let me know if you end up making this and if you picked different oils to use – I’m always looking to try different combinations!
xoxo,
Amy
